THE BERASNGARS

Obed was born in Koumra, Chad to a pastor’s family. He grew up in church and surrounded by Baptist Mid-Missions missionaries that were working at the many local Baptist churches in Koumra as well as the Koumra medical centre. Obed accepted Christ as his Saviour as a teenager and was baptized at the age of 18.
Lacy was born in Nova Scotia, Canada to a pastor’s family as well. She also grew up in church and was saved as a four-year-old child. She was baptized at the age of 11. Lacy met Obed at the home of missionaries in Sarh, Chad when she went on her first short-term mission’s trip with Baptist Mid Missions at the age of 16. Lacy had the opportunity to visit Chad on another short-term mission’s trip to Koumra in 2007.
God led Obed and Lacy together and they married in Chad in 2008. In 2009 they started their family in Canada and sought to prepare themselves for future service in Chad. Both Obed and Lacy attended a year of Bible school through the Emmanuel Baptist Bible Institute run through their local church in Moncton, and they both completed their university studies in French at the Université de Moncton in Moncton, New Brunswick. Obed completed a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Sociology and Lacy completed both Practical Nurses’ training at community college and a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Linguistics. God has given them four children: Israel, Jemuel, Suzy and Reuben.
Over the years both Obed and Lacy felt a growing burden to return to Chad to reach out in love and with the hope of the gospel to vulnerable and orphaned children in Chad. They felt that God was directly asking them to live for eternity and not the things of this life.
Matthew 6:19-20 – Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
In 2018 they formed a non-profit organization in Koumra to take in both orphaned babies and street kids, giving them a home and an education. The organization is currently run in Chad by Obed’s family and hired workers while the Berasngars raise support enabling them to serve full-time in Chad and to expand the ministry. They have constantly found that as they put God first and seek to follow him, he provides for their needs and for the needs of the children he sends to them for care.
Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
In the Summer of 2023 the Berasngar joined Baptist Mid-Missions to help them more effectively serve in Chad and are excited to have the support and encouragement of a large mission family. The Berasngars are excited to continue the ministry of Baptist Mid-Missions that was started in Chad nearly 100 years ago. Today there are over 300 Baptist churches in Chad, and they are burdened to see churches in their area continue to teach and preach the truth of the Scriptures. The Berasngar family is excited to work together with their local church in Koumra to reach out to orphaned children in need of the transforming power of Christ. They are especially burdened to see the children in the care of Kemnda Orphan Ministries be discipled to love God and to passionately pursue Him in their own lives.
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world”. – James 1:27
